Identifying Your Skin Type

Understanding your skin type is essential if you want to build a skincare routine that actually works!

Whether you're combating acne, striving for a dewy glow, or seeking relief from sensitivity, tailoring your routine to your skin's unique needs can make all the difference.

In this guide, we'll explore the five main skin types—oily, normal, combination, dry, and sensitive—and provide practical methods to help you identify yours.

Discovering Your Skin Type:

Oily Skin

Oily skin is characterized by excess sebum production, leading to a shiny appearance and common issues like blackheads and enlarged pores. Those with oily skin are more prone to acne due to clogged pores.

Dry Skin

 Dry Skin Type

Dry skin lacks sufficient oil, resulting in tightness, dullness, and potential flaking or peeling. It's important to differentiate between dry skin and dehydration, as the latter is linked to water loss and can affect any skin type.

Combination Skin

 Combination Skin Type

Combination skin presents a mix of characteristics, such as oiliness in the T-zone and dryness on the cheeks. Individuals with combination skin often experience different needs in various areas of their face.

Sensitive Skin

 Sensitive Skin Type

Sensitivity can manifest as redness, itching, or discomfort in response to various triggers, including skincare products. Sensitivity levels vary, and not all reactions are immediately visible.

Normal Skin

 Normal Skin Type

Normal skin is balanced, neither excessively dry nor oily, with small pores and a smooth texture. Those with normal skin typically experience fewer blemishes and sensitivity issues.

Discovering Your Skin Type:

  • Cleanse & Dry Method: Cleanse your face and allow it to air dry for 25-30 minutes. Note any tightness, shine, or irritation. Dryness suggests dry skin, excessive shine indicates oiliness, while both may signify combination skin. No issues suggest normal skin.

  • Blotting Sheet Method: Before cleansing in the evening, press blotting paper against different areas of your face and observe the oil absorbed. More oil suggests oily skin, minimal oil suggests dry skin, and minimal oil with some in the T-zone indicates combination or normal skin.

Can Your Skin Type Change?

Your skin type is not fixed and can evolve over time due to various factors, including age and environmental conditions. For example, oily skin may prevail during adolescence but transition to dryness with age. External factors like climate also influence skin behaviour.

Building Your Skincare Routine:

Once you've identified your skin type, it's time to curate a personalised skincare routine. Regardless of your skin type, incorporating essentials like cleansers, moisturisers, and SPF is crucial. Consider adding versatile products like Crème Rescue Serum, suitable for all skin types, to address specific concerns while maintaining overall skin health.
